Changes to Nationality Acquisition Process
As of March 5th, 2024, the Nationality Law has been updated with its tenth amendment (Organic Law No. 1/2024), as published in the Diário de República. These amendments will be effective as of April 1st, 2024.

- This means that the countdown towards the 5-year residency requirement for nationality applications begins not at the issuance date of your first residence permit, but from the date you applied for the permit.

- The specifics of "the moment at which the temporary residence permit was requested" need further regulatory definition. This could mean either the date you submitted your residence authorization application or the date you paid the application fee.
